Celtic eye revenge on long trip north

Celtic midfielder Dylan McGeouch says the Hoops are out for revenge when they take on Ross County in their Scottish Premier League clash on Sunday.

The Parkhead club were on the receiving end of a disappointing defeat the last time they made the long trip north to Victoria Park.

McGeouch was in the side that surrendered an early 2-0 lead in March to lose 3-2, with Steffen Wohlfarth grabbing the winner for the hosts in added time.

The 20-year-old, who came on as a substitute in last week’s 3-1 defeat to Motherwell, is likely to feature again as manager Neil Lennon utilises the fringe players in his squad.

After wrapping up their second successive SPL title, Lennon is aiming to keep his squad fresh for the Scottish Cup Final against Hibernian on May 26 and next season’s opening Champions League qualifier – which is scheduled for July 16-17.

McGeouch, whose appearances in the first team have been limited this season, is determined to grab his chance and insists there won’t be a repeat of March’s defeat as he tries to earn himself a place in his manager’s plans for the Scottish Cup final and beyond.

“I started that game and we were up 2-0, but we lost sloppy goals and they came back and ended up beating us in the last minute,” the Celtic midfielder said.

“Hopefully we can go up there, turn it around and get a positive result. They are big, physical and a good team. They have good players. When we were up there, the pitch wasn’t the best either. We know it will be a hard game but hopefully we can get the three points.

“We want to enjoy the run-in ahead of the Scottish Cup final and we also want the fans to enjoy celebrating the title. It’s a good time to be part of the club.”

Kelvin Wilson, Efe Ambrose, Kris Commons and Joe Ledley were all given the week off before missing the 3-1 defeat by Motherwell.

All four will be back in contention for this weekend’s trip but first team keeper Fraser Forster, Emilio Izaguirre, Charlie Mulgrew, Gary Hooper and Georgios Samaras will be missing after being handed a holiday.
