Dr Henry Seidu Daannaa, Minister of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs at the weekend announced the introduction of a new chieftaincy programme that would codify lines of succession of paramount stools in the country.

He noted that the programme was introduced because of the numerous chieftaincy disputes and appealed to the traditional rulers to cooperate and support it

Dr. Daannaa said this at the end of a one-week working visit to selected Traditional Areas in the Brong-Ahafo Region.

The Minister was accompanied by Mr Alexander Essien, Acting Registrar of the National House of Chiefs and other staff of the Brong-Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs. Dr Daannaa?s visit took him to 17 out of 54 traditional councils in the region.

During his visit, Dr. Daannaa sensitise the paramount chiefs and their subjects on the Chieftaincy Act and other programmes designed by the ministry.

He also paid courtesy calls on the various Municipal and District Chief Executive in the region.

Addressing separate meetings of the Dwenem, Drobo and Japekorm Traditional Councils on Saturday, Dr Daannaa emphasised that peace was a pre-requite tool for development and appealed to the chiefs to foster unity among themselves.

Dr Daannaa explained that without the support of the chiefs, the programme which is aimed at helping to end chieftaincy disputes in the country would not achieve the set goals.

He observed that the chieftaincy institution was a noble one but a sensitive area and advised traditional rulers to conduct themselves in a manner that would not threaten national peace.

Nana Bofo Bene IV, Omanhene of Dwenem expressed concern about protracted land litigation between the people of Japekrom and Drobo which posed threat to the prevailing peace in the district.

He appealed to the ministry to intervene and help resolve the matter as soon as possible.

Beyeeman Boseako Gyinantwi, Omanhene of Drobo noted that the staff strength in the various traditional councils were not enough while government allowances to the councils were also inadequate.

He commended Dr Daannaa for introducing and pursuing the code of lines succession of stools and skins which would make processes in enstoolment easier whenever stools become vacant. GNA
