The exercise, which is been carried out in collaboration with the Nandom District Health Directorate, will ensure that persons tested positive are counseled and referred to the Nandom Hospital for treatment.

Those who will test negative will be advised to visit the hospital to vaccinate against the disease, says Mr. James Adongo, a Biomedical Scientist in charge of the Nadom Hospital Laboratory.

He said with more than 500 persons screened so far, Hepatitis C seemed to be more prevalent among the people and this situation might have been caused by the attention paid to Hepatitis B in the past.

Mr. Adongo said Hepatitis B was a silent killer in the Nandom District.

Mr. Christopher Crilly Pienaah, Manager of DKM Diamond Micro-Finance Limited, said poverty and poor health worldwide were inextricably linked and that any attempt at arresting poor health without focusing on poverty alleviation was a recipe for failure.
