The current Government has taking steps to encourage Engineers and Technologist, for which is to enable them to come out with simple, but robust alternative sources of Energy Generation, Town Gas(from solid waste)to cut down on the cost of Liquefied Petroleum Gas among others.

Speaking at the AGM & induction ceremony of the Institute of Engineering and Technology, Ghana formerly of Institute of Incorporated Engineers in Accra, under the theme; Engineering & Technology: Backbone of Economic Development, the Deputy Minister for Environment Science & Technology, Hon. Dr. Bernice Adiku Heloo said Engineers and Technologist are been challenged to Term-up and develop wind-Propelled Electricity Generating Banks for rural areas.

She call on Engineer and Planners to come on board to support the government and the Ministry to help address the issues of Galamsy through assisting the government and her Ministry to reclaim lost farmlands and salvage polluted waters.

According to her, as an Engineering Institution, the ministry would like to throw an open invitation to help Government Initiate Alternative Cheaper energy sources, as we look ahead to 2015,and fast-approaching deadline for achieving MDG?s, it?s vital? that the full measures of engineering and technology?s capacity to levels that can make a difference in our beloved country.

Dr. Heloo hinted that government will continue to support research that brings together engineering and technological innovation because we recognize that long-lasting returns can be realized when engineering and technological research is integrated with private sector know how.

She explain further that government remain committed to investing in the next generation of innovators, whose work promises to keep Ghana competitive on global stage and bolster the economy through engineering and technology innovation.

In his welcome address,the president of institute of Engineering and Technology, Ghana, Rev. ENGR. Eric Ankrah noted the unfortunate situation is that all various governments have not made any effort to repeal the PNDC Law 285 on the songhor lagoon and therefore no investor can invest in the lagoon.

He therefore appeal to the current government(ie, cabinet, legislation and judiciary)by mercies of God to consider with all tender loving-kindness for the people of this nation to repeal the Law, to allow and enable more investors into salt production industry.
