DESTINY SECURITY Services Limited (DSSL), a Tema-based private security company, has as part of its corporate social responsibility donated assorted items to the Akropong School for the Blind at Akropong in the Eastern Region.

The gesture included bags of rice, cooking oil, assorted books and Bibles and white canes, all valued at about GH?3,000.00.

Presenting the items to the Head of the Akropong School on Friday, Chief Executive Officer of DSSL, Frank Senanu Ashiadey, said his outfit felt it necessary to extend a helping hand to the underprivileged in the society.

Joseph Atsu Homadzi, assistant headmaster for the school, received the items on behalf of his outfit and thanked the donors for their generosity.

Mr Homadzi outlined the numerous challenges facing the school and called on other benevolent individuals and institutions for support.

He noted categorically that the school lacked a kindergarten (KG) block and many teaching materials, adding that support from government was insufficient due to the recent economic crisis facing the nation which had led to astronomical increases in prices of goods and services of all kinds.

The Akropong School for the Blind was established on August 6, 1945.

It was the first special education facility for the blind in West Africa to be initiated by the Presbyterian missionaries.
