The President of Ghana, John Evans Atta Mills, has directed the security agencies to deal with anyone – irrespective of political affiliation – disrupting the ongoing biometric registration exercise.

Speaking in the Central Region on a day’s working visit, President Mills said the security forces have been instructed and well equipped to nib the ongoing violence that has characterised the biometric registration exercise in the bud.

There have been pockets of violence at some registration centres across the country with the latest being the battering of the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary candidate, Ursula Owusu, and Abu Jinapor, an aide to the flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, at the Odododiodio Constituency on Wednesday by macho men.

Tension has heightened in the area compelling the Greater Accra Regional Command of the Police Service to deploy more men there to maintain law and order.

President Mills said no one will be spared and the law will be allowed to take its course when the troublemakers are grabbed.

“Our security forces have been instructed and equipped to deal with all the situations likely to threaten the peace and security that we enjoy,” he said. “From the report that I’m getting the security forces are playing their expected roles. Not everybody will agree.”

President Mills also condemned calls on him to directly get involved in saving the situation because that is not his job.

“I therefore want to reiterate the call that I have made often to our security agencies that no one or group is above the law and I know they are determined to ensure that those who break the law, especially during this time face the full rigours of our laws,” Mills added.
