THE TEMA Regional Marine, Railways and Port Command is holding a 20-year-old man who allegedly stormed the police headquarters and made away with a mobile phone belonging to a police officer.

The culprit, Daniel Oduro, a resident of Community 1, Site 16, was said to have monitored the police officer attached to the Tema Regional branch of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service, so immediately the officer stepped out of the office, he entered and stole an HTC android mobile phone which she had left on her desk.

Information gathered by DAILY GUIDE indicated that the Regional Police Command had been experiencing petty stealing recently and this had placed the officers on high alert.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Olivia Turskson, the Public Relations Officer of the Tema Regional Police, who confirmed the raid to DAILY GUIDE, expressed shock at the action of the suspect.

Narrating the circumstance under which Daniel was caught, she noted that on April 11, 2014 at about 2:30 pm the DOVVSU officer received a client in the officer and decided to escort the client afterwards.

According to her, the officer together with the client went out and upon return, the officer spotted the young man walking on the corridor of the office but they did not speak to each another.

The PRO of the Police Service further explained that the officer went to her desk and immediately wanted to place a phone call, only to realise that HTC mobile phone estimated at GH?1,400 she had left less than a minute ago was nowhere to be found.

She said the officer searched everywhere in the office but could not find the phone until she became suspicious of the young man she had met.

ASP Turkson mentioned that the officer came out and spotted the young man walking away briskly and immediately raised the alarm, attracting other police officers around.

The suspect was said to have foreseen trouble and decided to run for his life but was pursued and apprehended by the police officers.

He was brought to the Police Command and a search conducted on him revealed the mobile phone hidden in his boxers.

Daniel was immediately handed over to the Marine, Railways and Port Police to commence investigations into the matter for him to face possible prosecution.
