Cyber investigation workshop underway in Namibia

A southern Africa workshop on cyber investigation and electronic evidence opens in Windhoek Tuesday.
The workshop is being attended by either prosecutors, judges or investigators from nine countries ? Zambia, Namibia, Swaziland, South Africa, Seychelles, Mozambique, Lesotho, Mauritius and Botswana.

The workshop is being held at a time when southern Africa is experiencing significant rise in crimes involving computers and the Internet.
Among other things, workshop aims to seek ways of fighting cyber crime and to explore legal and procedural issues involved in the use of electronic evidence in criminal proceedings.
The participants will also be taught how to analyze digital evidence and the use of cyber tools to probe crime.
In addition, the workshop will dwell on online investigations, forensic analysis and searching and seizing computers as well as cell phones used to commit crimes.
The U.S Department of Justice is supporting the workshop through its Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section as well as the Office of Overseas Prosecutorial Development, Assistance and Training. Enditem
