Court jails Farmer for defilement

A Circuit Court at Dormaa-Ahenkro in the Brong-Ahafo Region, has sentenced Seidu Bukari, a farmer, to 18 years imprisonment in hard labour, for defiling a two-year old girl.

LAWBukari, 23, pleaded guilty and was therefore convicted on his own plea.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Nelson Fumey, told the Court presided over by Mr Ahmed Y. Asibey, that Janet Benewaa, the complainant, is a farmer resident at Nkrakwanta in the Dormaa West District, while the convict also lived at Yaw Owusu village, near Nkrakwanta.

Inspector Fumey said, on October 4, the complainant reported that on the evening of October 3 her grand-daughter, Akosua Bridget, aged two years, was defiled by Bukari.

The prosecution stated that at 0430 hours on October 4, while urinating, the victim started crying, and when asked her reason for crying, she disclosed that Bukari defiled her on the previous day.

Inspector Fumey said Benewaa and one Kofi Peter, organized a search and arrested the convict, who was subsequently handed over to the Nkrakwanta Police

He said Benewaa was issued with a police medical report form to send the victim to hospital for examination, where the medical report revealed that the victim had been defiled.

The prosecution said, based on the medical report, the convict was charged with defilement.
