The $300m (sh879bn) fight pitting Floyd Mayweather against Manny Pacquiao will have a Ugandan- Cornelius Boza Edwards in one of the corners.

Boza, born Cornelius Bbosa, is a former super featherweight champion who is now one of Mayweather?s trainers.

He was born in Kampala and was raised in downtown Kisenyi. As a talented teenager, he was later adopted by an English businessman Jack Edwards.

He left for greener pastures in England in 1974. Boza, now based in Las Vegas, regularly visits Uganda, and was also supposed to attend last week?s Fighters Awards but couldn?t make it due to the tight schedule for the forthcoming fight.

A successful night will have Boza reaping big from a camp known for its generosity. With a 60-40 sharing agreement, Mayweather could walk away with $180m (sh527bn) and Pacquiao $120m (351bn).

Equally high are the betting stakes that have had rapper 50 Cent staking $1.7m (sh4.9bn) on Mayweather winning.

Boza was part of Mayweather?s entourage as the American fighter arrived in Las Vegas to begin preparations for what is being described as the fight of the decade.

Undefeated Mayweather will be putting his WBA, WBC and WBO welterweight crowns on the line at the MGM Grand, Las Vegas.

Mayweather is full of praises for Boza just as the trainer respects the fighter. ?It makes me feel good when a guy like him tells me, ?Floyd, you are a very, very hard worker,?? Mayweather said of Boza.

It?s not the first time that Mayweather has been in Ugandan company.

As a rising star, the 1996 Olympic champion registered one of his biggest wins in 1999 when he beat Justin Juuko in a title fight at the Mandalay Bay and Casino.

Juuko who last year returned to Las Vegas has since remained one of Mayweather?s buddies.

Boza won the WBC world Jr. Lightweight title from ?Bazooka? Limon with a fifteen round decision in 1981 at Stockton, California, this after Limon, a Mexican, had made his infamous statement: You know what happens to British boxers when they face Mexicans comment, in a reference to the fight between Lupe Pintor and Johnny Owen, after which Owen lost his life.

Boza then defeated Bobby Chacon by technical knockout in the fourteenth round in his first defense, but then, he lost the title to Rolando Navarrete, by knockout in round five.

Boza-Edwards also fought with, and lost against, other world champions such as his rematch with Chacon, Alexis Arg?ello by knockout in eight, H?ctor Camacho by decision in twelve, Rocky Lockridge, by decision in ten and Jose Luis Ramirez by knockout in five rounds.
