Coach Appiah Has Been Victim Of Incompetence, Neo-colonialism

wpid-KwesiAppiahnewface.jpgThe sacking of Coach Kwesi Appiah is a grave mistake and one for me hides the nature of how the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is run.? I do believe that Kwesi Appiah has been harshly treated by the corrupt management of the GFA.? For me the ones who should have been sacked are the greedy unholy cabal at the GFA.

In actual fact Appiah should have kept his job until at least after next year?s AFCON.? The world cup debacle had more to do with greedy players, corrupt management of the GFA and wickedly dis-organized ministry of youth and sports.? The sheer contempt that the players of the Black Stars had not only for the coach but the way they held the country to ransom tells one more about the players than the coach.

It is ironic that England, one of the stalwarts of the game, who had the worst World Cup for more than 50 years DID NOT sack coach Roy Hodgson but instead kept him on looking at the bigger picture.

Neo-Colonialism:

The fact that most of the players had one would say no RESPECT for Kwesi Appiah shows that they have no respect for themselves and would rather have a WHITE coach at the helm.? This brings us nicely to the debate of the White coach v Black coach.

Sacking Kwesi Appiah in favour of one could only say white mercenary like Milovan Rajevac and that is what this man is; a mercenary is in fact a backward step!! Like many Ghanaians after Milo, as he was affectionately called, ceremoniously dumped Ghana to go to Saudi Arabia, clamored for a Black man to lead the Black stars for two main reasons.

Firstly to send an inspirational message to other local coaches that a Black man had the ability to manage his country meaning that they too could one day manage Ghana and secondly that the Black man is capable of managing his own affairs.

Kwesi Appiah led Ghana to the semi-finals of the 2012 African Cup of Nations losing to eventual winners Zambia and also led Ghana to the semi-finals of the 2013 AFCON.? Kwesi Appiah also became the first Black man to lead Ghana to the World Cup finals in Brazil 2014.? Like I said previously the fiasco in Brazil was due in my humble view not so much to the incompetence of Kwesi Appiah (by the way Ghana was the only team that gave World Champions Germany a match in the entire tournament) but the insatiable greed of many of the players of the Black Stars and two, the gross incompetence of the management of the GFA.?? So in truth and fair analysis Kwesi Appiah had a commendable record.

But it is neo-colonialism of sickest and highest order that the GFA for their own inadequacy sack someone who just recently they had confidence in by extending his contract, to bring in someone who basically stuck two fingers to you and accusing the Black Stars of in his words ?Black Magic?.

Clearly the buffoons at the GFA believe in their perverse minds that Black people have not got the acumen, capabilities and abilities to be successful in football management and that only white mercenaries like Milo are capable of football management at the highest level.

This decision by the management of the GFA shows lack of vision by taking the easy option, lack of leadership by not persevering with Appiah by helping him to address his shortcomings.

Leadership

The current management of the GFA has shown time and time again that they lack the vision, foresight capabilities to promote and develop the game in Ghana.? One must ask themselves what serious development and promotion of the game of the current leadership of the GFA gave to Ghana.? Where is the long term football development plan, including building football academies similar to that of Marcel Desailly?s at East Legon?

What has happened to the development of the Women?s game?? What has happened to the development of disabled football in Ghana?? What has happened to the development of grassroots football and what has happened to the development of the Ghana Premier League that limps on year on year?? This despite the GFA receiving millions of dollars from FIFA!!

It is also fair to ask who is the GFA accountable to?? It seems to me that the GFA is accountable to no one and are a rule to themselves.? If the current management of the GFA had a shred of integrity they ALL should have resign a long time ago.

These people hide behind the arrogance of power and officialdom but lack the leadership skills, creativity, innovation and qualities needed to take the game to a higher level in Ghana.? This means that football in Ghana is not just about the Black Stars but the wholistic development of the game.

REAL leadership is about making hardnosed decisions that may be unpopular but taking into consideration the long term consequences of such decision making.? It is high time the management of the GFA be made accountable for their actions and stop hiding behind their incompetences.
