China sent a naval fleet to help evacuate its citizens from Yemen as the conflict worsens, the Defence Ministry said Monday.

The fleet that had been carrying out escort missions in the Gulf of Aden and Somali waters was dispatched for the evacuation Sunday, it said.

The government made the decision after Saudi Arabia launched airstrikes on its southern neighbour last week.
