China to Help Ghana Achieve 10% Renewable Energy Mix

The Chinese Ambassador to Ghana, Ms Sun Baohong, on Friday pledged China?s support for Ghana in the latter?s quest to generate adequate electricity to accelerate economic growth.

According to her, the Ghana government?s target of achieving 10 percent renewable component of its electricity generation mix by 2020 would receive the full support of her country through capacity building on renewable energy solutions.

The Ambassador said this when she called on the Minister for Energy and Petroleum, Mr. Emanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, at his office in Accra.

Ms Baohong said the close collaboration by both countries had resulted in the implementation of various energy projects, which successes gave the confidence that the partnership could be expanded.

She gave the assurance that she would work closely with the Minister to improve the energy sector and to achieve the goals of the government with regards to power generation, and announced that China would offer training to Ghanaians to build capacity in the energy industry.

Welcoming the Ambassador, Mr. Buah expressed Ghana?s gratitude to China for its continued support to the country and hoped that the relationship between the two countries would grow stronger.

He recalled his recent visit to China, which he described as ?fruitful? and pointed out how China could be of help in the renewable energy solutions for off-grid communities ? of which some projects are already underway, according to him.
