The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) has appealed to school pupils and students to familiarise themselves with road safety issues.National Road Safety Commission

This would ensure their safety on the road and avert knockdowns.

Mr. Samuel Obeng Asiamah, the Western Regional Manager of the NRSC, said this at road safety quiz competition organized by the Commission for four basic schools in Shama and Wassa East districts.

The competing schools were Subri Industrial Plantation Limited (SIPL) at Daboase, Dispensation Victory Academy at Inchaban, Ntaamakrom M/A and Supormu Dunkwa Methodist Primary.

SIPL emerged winners and were presented with a trophy, certificates, text books and other road safety materials.

Other participating schools also received road safety educational materials and certificates.

Mr. Expensive Gyambah, NRSC Coordinator in charge of District Education, expressed satisfaction over the knowledge level of participating pupils.

He said it was a good sign that they were learning the rudiments of road safety mannerisms and that would help in reducing frequent knockdowns involving children.

Mr Gyambah expressed delight that the pupils were able to explain road signs and symbols, proper way of crossing pedestrian crossing points and seating position of children on vehicles.
