Since September, Cher has been battling a potentially deadly viral infection that caused her to postpone several dates on her Dressed to Kill tour. Now, upon doctors? advice, the singer has cancelled the remainder of her tour. ?Nothing like this has ever happened to me,? she says in a statement. ?I sincerely hope that we can come back again next year and finish what we started.?

As Closer Weekly reports in its new issue, on newsstands now, it?s been a challenging two months for the star. ?Cher says she?s never felt more ill,? a source reveals to Closer. ?It has hit her so hard,? adds a friend.
Closer was the first to report that Cher was spotted in late October wearing a heart monitor ? the result of the potentially deadly viral infection. ?[Cher had] a weird heart monitor taped to her chest,? while shopping at the Whole Foods in [LA neighborhood] Brentwood on Oct. 29, an eyewitness told Closer.

At the time, a spokesperson for Cher confirmed the singer was wearing a monitor, exclusively telling Closer, ?Cher was wearing a 24-hour heart monitor, which is a normal part of her recovery, just to ensure that she continues her excellent recovery from the viral infection she had.?
Most concerning, experts explain that acute viral infections can cause irregular heartbeats, ?which can be deadly if left unmonitored,? Dr. Gabe Mirkin, MD, an Orlando, Florida?based physician who has not treated the singer, tells Closer.

?This viral infection she contracted scared everyone,? a source tells Closer. According to a longtime friend of the star, the viral infection ?primarily affected her kidneys,? but also ?played havoc with her entire body. It?s been very scary to her.?
?Cher drives herself at an unreasonable pace. This is an extremely rigorous show for a woman half her age,? a source tells Closer. And loved ones are praying she?ll heed this wake-up call. ?Chaz [Bono] has been pleading with his mother to slow down,? says the friend.

A total of 29 dates have been cancelled, including shows in New York City, Boston, Chicago and Toronto.
?I cannot apologize enough to all the fans who bought tickets,? Cher said, in her statement. ?I?m so proud of this show. It is my best ever.?
