Burj Khalifa- the tallest building in the world

Sky scrapers have always been the fantasies of people. They have been building in different parts of the world for multiple purposes. The urge for build the tallest building has been all over the world. The great pyramids held this record as the tallest man made structure for over four millennia until it was beaten by the Lincoln Cathedral in 1300. Currently the tallest building in the world is the Burj Khalifa at 829.84 m located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is also known as the Burj Dubai and it is one of the perfectly build manmade structures in the world. The construction work of the the Burj Dubai was started in 2004 and the exterior of the building was completed in 2009. The building was officially opened on 4th January 2010. Adrian smith was the chief Architect of the building and engineering and architecture being performed by Skidmore Owings and Merrill of Chicago.

The South Korean Company Samsung C&T were the primary contractor of the building,

It is estimated that about UD$1.5 billion was the total expenditure of the project and another 20 billion dollars were spend for the “Downtown Dubai”. In the opening ceremony the tower was names as “ Burj Khalifa” as an honour of the UAE President Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan who strived hard for the success of this project.

Burj Dubai holds a lot of records other than the tallest tower in the world, let’s see some of these

I guess you remember the film Mission Impossible 4 Ghost protocol starring Tom cruise which was released on December 2011. In the film the hero jumps from the 122th floor and does some mind blowing action, the beauty of Burj Dubai is well portrayed in the film.

One of the eye catching features associated with the Burj Dubai is the $217 million fountain system which was designed by WET Design. This is the very same company which designed the fountains in the Bellagio Hotel Lake in Las Vegas. The 275 m tall fountain shoots water about 150 m into the air with the classic music from around the world. The fountain which is called the Dubai fountain is one of the many tourist attractions in the city.
