Some of them, whose districts and municipalities did not benefit from the first phase of the secondary education improvement project, being funded by the World Bank, appealed to the government to roll them on board.

The chief executives gave the commendation in interviews with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), on Tuesday, when President John Dramani Mahama launched the implementation of the second phase of the project in Kintampo.

They are Mr Kwasi Oppong-Ababio, Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, Mr Gordon Asubonteng, Dormaa Municipal Chief Executive, and Mr Bukari Anaba, Tano South District Chief Executive.

In line with government?s effort to provide better social services in under-served areas, the World Bank Group and Ghana recently signed a $156 million financing agreement to improve access to secondary education in under-served districts.

The Chief Executives lauded efforts by the government in attracting international support, even though the country had attained the middle income status, an achievement that had compelled many of its international partners to withdraw certain grants and aids.

Mr Oppong-Ababio said development in the Sunyani Municipality was on course, communities such as Atronie ought to get a Senior High School (SHS) and the new Abesim SHS should benefit from the project.
