Britain on Monday launched a review of switchboard security after a hoax caller claiming to be a senior intelligence official was put through to Prime Minister David Cameron.wpid-prime20minister20david20cameron.jpg

The caller claimed to be Robert Hannigan, head of intelligence signals agency GCHQ, which inadvertently gave out the mobile phone numbers of Hannigan and Cameron.

The numbers were for regular mobile phone accounts rather than unclassified phone lines used for the transmission of sensitive information.

The prankster first called Hannigan and then boasted to the Sun newspaper about his exploits. According to The Sun, he said he had “made monkeys” of the intelligence establishment despite being full of alcohol and drugs.

He then phoned Cameron. According to officials, the call lasted just seconds before the prime minister realised he had been duped.
