Bristol City face an anxious wait to find out whether star player Albert Adomah will be available to them next month.

Adomah has been included in Ghana?s provisional 26-man squad for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

And if he makes the final cut, he could potentially be away for up to six weeks.

Adomah will join the Black Stars at a training camp in the United Arab Emirates between January 4-16, missing City?s FA Cup third round tie at Blackburn and the home Championship clash against Leicester.

He is expected to feature in warm-up games against Tunisia and Egypt, after which Ghana will name their final 23-man squad to contest the finals, which begin on January 19.

Should Adomah be selected for the tournament and he and his team-mates reach the final, he could miss six weeks of the domestic campaign in all and be ruled out of additional Championship fixtures against Leeds United, Ipswich Town, Blackburn Rovers and Nottingham Forest.

Losing Adomah for such a long period of time would be a major blow for a City side already engaged in a protracted fight against relegation.

The former Barnet winger has been the stand-out performer in recent weeks and his brilliant free kick goal secured a vital 3-2 victory over fellow strugglers Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough recently.

Although Robins boss Derek McInnes attempted to put on a brave face publicly, he will be privately hoping that Adomah is not required for the finals in South Africa.

He said: ?From Albert?s point of view it is a great stage for him to showcase his abilities.

?There is a lot of good experience a player can get from being involved in a major event like that.

?But selfishly, I?m like every Bristol City supporter, and I want Albert here with us.

?He?s such an important player for us as everyone knows, so to have him missing for a few games will be a real shame.

?He has not been named in the official squad yet but, if he is, we will wish him well. We will just have to make sure we can cope with it when it comes.?

If Adomah is involved with Ghana at the African Cup of Nations, McInnes at least has cover on the right side of midfield within his squad.

Signed from Nottingham Forest last summer, Paul Anderson has been waiting patiently in the wings for an opportunity to establish himself and could be given that chance when City travel to Ewood Park to meet Blackburn in the FA Cup on January 5.

Adomah, 24, has made three appearances for the Black Stars, including his debut last year in a 1-0 defeat to Brazil at Craven Cottage.
