Members of the Bring Back Our Girls Campaign on Tuesday met with the Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh over the abducted girls in Chibok, Borno.

Former Minister of Education, Dr Obiageli Ezekwesili, Mr Isa Aremu, Vice President of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Mr Jibrin Ibrahim of the Centre for Democracy and Development, were among the protesters.

Ibrahim told his colleagues after the meeting that the need for regular information and communication from the military on what was being done to rescue the girls was one of the key demands.

“As Nigerians, we need to be regularly briefed on what is being done. We are not saying we want to get the details of the operation that need to be kept secret.

“But at least as Nigerians, we need to get regular information and briefing that reflect the reality in the field??, he said.

He added that they also challenged the military high command to improve community relations in order to address mistrust between the military and members of the public.

Ibrahim expressed satisfaction with the briefing of the Chief of Defence Staff, details of which he did not disclose for security reasons.

On her part, Ezekwesili said Nigerians were not seeing any sense of urgency by security agencies to rescue the girls.

“We don’t doubt that something is going on, but whatever is going on is not persuasive and that is why we came out to demand better action by the military??, she said.

She, however, said the chief of defence staff assured them that the military was scaling up its operations to ensure that the girls were rescued unhurt.

The Director of Defence Information, Brig.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, said the military was concerned about the safety of the girls as all other Nigerians.

“Everything you said is very important to us; your concerns are our concerns. Those girls are our children as well.

“In this building, there are people who have children among the abducted girls.

“So, we equally share in your concerns and I want you to be sure that we are not leaving Nigerians alone, we are not shirking our responsibility??, Olukolade said.
