Botswana has called on foreign diplomats to align their blueprints to the country’s agenda and work towards helping the country fight its challenges. Poverty
Addressing at the Heads of Mission Conference on Tuesday, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Lalologang Caesar Lekoa said youth unemployment, poverty, education and HIV/AIDS are some of the challenges of Botswana.
“Tackling these challenges will remain among the policy priorities of the government during the next five years,” he said.
“As you go about formulating strategic plans at your respective missions, do so conscious of these policy priorities that our government has set for itself, and ensure that you align these plans to reflect government priorities,” said Lekoa.
Lekoa called upon the government, the private sector and diplomatic representations to jointly identify the country’s needs and make them objectives for diplomatic missions to fulfill, as they interact with the international community.
Meanwhile Lekoa said his ministry has taken stock of the feedback from various diplomatic missions, especially challenges in effort to attract foreign investment to the country.
He said Botswana has made headway in the categorization of visa regime, where the issuance of visas is prioritized, taking into account the interest of Botswana.
This year’s head of mission’s conference was held under the theme: “Coordinated Action for Effective Promotion of Botswana Abroad.” Enditem
