The items donated included, text books for Social Studies, English Language, Mathematics and Integrated Science. The rest comprised of a Toshiba laptop computer and an industrial size projection screen.
Making the presentation, Patron Chairman of the association, Mr. Hussein Abugri said, Big Boss remains a special place in the hearts of every students who has attended the school and as proud products of this great institution of learning, the group found it necessary to give back in support of the development of the school that has contributed a lot to their lives.
Receiving the items on behalf of management and students of the school, the Headmaster, Mr. Afelibiek Ababu, thanked the association for the handsome donation and urged them to consider doing more to help ease some of the problems of the school. Mr. Ababu described as false the perception that Big Boss is well endowed and attributed the school?s continuous good performance over the years to sheer hard work and sacrifice.
He noted that, whereas student population of the school has seen an exponential increase in recent years, infrastructural development has been nothing to write home about. ?In this school? Mr. Ababu, recounted, ?our biggest problem is inadequate classrooms, dormitories and staff accommodation. The classrooms are overcrowded with over 60 students per class. Due to lack of dormitory space, we always convert the dining hall into a dormitory at the beginning of every year when we do new admission. For a staff strength of 109 only 22 has accommodation on campus many of which are in bad state?.
The Headmaster howeverassured the old students of the determination of the management and students to stay above the numerous challenges and to continue to produce good performance.
Expressing the vision of the association, Patron Secretary of the association Mr. Peter Larry said, for many years, the associationhas existed as splitter groups on the lines of year of graduation untilrecently when a colleague, one Yimbilah Nicholina Nkang-ma, launcheda social media initiative (WhatsApp),which is being used now to bring together the various groups under the banner of one big ?Tangabia?. Mr Larry appealed to all past students to connect with the group for them to harness their efforts to support the development of the school where the foundation of their academic and career life all began.
Patron, Madam Comfort Apalayine, advised parents to spend quality time with their children and support them to set life goals and work to achieve them.
Earlier, the old students met and interacted with the Regional Director of Education Mr. Emmanuel Zumakpea. In his interaction, the Regional Director of Educationobserved thatconsidering current challenges with government finances which have compelled government to cede certain financial obligations to state departments, the problems facing the education sector in the country may likely worsen if enough support does not come from non-state sources. He lamented the difficulty his office is going through with the Electricity Company of Ghana over the payment of GHC 13, 000 outstanding electricity bill owed by government before the recent decision for state departments to pay for utilities services on their own. Mr. Zumakpeasaid his officeand many educational institutions in the region are facing eminentpower supply disconnection due to their inability to settle debts andpay for new supply. He appealed to the government to take a second look at the directive to prevent collapse of the educational system.
