The recent attack was made known by a lawmaker and a relief agency official who did not want their names in print. They said many residents were forced to flee to the mountains during the attack.

Michika town in northeastern Adamawa state which has witnessed series of attacks in recent time was said to have its streets littered with dead bodies in several villages.

A representative of the Michika district in the state government, Adamu Kamale, said the extremist had been going ?door-to-door, killing people, including the old? for the past two weeks.

Kamale, who said about 70 percent of the population had fled their homes, also revealed that the sect members have kidnapped women, children as well as destroyed several homes in the area.

?Dead bodies litter villages. The attackers slaughter people like animals. To us, it has gone beyond insurgency. Something very strange is taking place in Michika,? he said.

The representative further stated that he is struggling to understand the recent unrest after the attacks in other areas under Boko Haram?s control had been abated.

The northeast coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency, Mohammed Kanar, who spoke with AFP, confirmed the attacks in Michika, but declined to give details of the violence.

?People are trapped in the mountains but they are inaccessible. The security situation is a challenge,? he said.

The Boko Haram terrorist group has reportedly killed no fewer than 13, 000 people since it began its insurrection against the Nigerian government. It has been in control of Michika for at least five months now.

Meanwhile, these daily bloodbath happening in the northeastern part of the country has raised some serious questions on the possibility of conducting the 14 & 28 February elections.

Speaking on such fears is the head of a European Union election monitoring mission, Santiago Fisas, who posited that the commission?s election observation team would not go to the northeast.
