Unknown gunmen in three villages in Kufara community in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State reportedly killed no fewer than 10 people yesterday morning.

Kaduna State Police Spokesman, DSP Aminu Lawan told Saturday Sun on phone that his attention had been drawn to the incident, and that his men were in the villages to get the details of the incident.  A local reporter, who works with Kaduna State news media, visited the scenes of the attacks in company with the Chairman of Chikun Local Government Area, Mr. Auta Mamman Busa.

The reporter, who did not want his name mentioned in print, said that the villagers told him that the “gunmen were over 20 in number, and they were all armed with AK47 guns.

“They came to the first village around 10 pm yesterday (Thursday) and started shooting and killing people.  “They burnt houses and moved to the next village. Again they started shooting and vandalising properties. Then, they moved to the next.  “They also went to the home of Pastor Innocent Chukwuemeka Mari of Assemblies of God Church in Kufara. They killed him right in the presence of his wife and children. They shot the wife and left her. They also set the church on fire.

“They carried out the attacks until the early hour of yesterday morning. Nobody challenged them. Ten people were confirmed dead and five were injured, while several homes were burnt.  “The five people injured are in critical condition. They have all been moved to Ahmadu Bello Teaching Hospital, Shika, near Zaria”
