Black Stars Need Massive Win

wpid-black-stars.jpgIn contrast to Ghana?s heroics at the 2010 World Cup, this competition in Brazil has hardly gone better for the Black Stars.

After reaching the second round in their previous two appearances, Ghana enter their final Group G match on Thursday against Portugal needing a massive win and also looking beyond their match for some assurance.

The game at the Estadio Nacional will kick off at 16:00GMT.

The Black Stars with just one point from two matches need a big win over Portugal in Brasilia and hope the other fixture between Germany and the United States does not end in a draw.

The same rule also applies to Portugal, who have one point and a four-goal deficit as they sit three points adrift both the Germans and the US.

The key to Ghana hopes is how the tackle the all-important game at the World Cup following an opening 2-1 defeat to the United States and a 2-2 draw with Germany.

Black Stars coach Kwesi Appiah, who will be without the suspended Sulley Muntari knows all about his players? psychology and believes they will fight to the very end.

?Ghanaians have a strong mentality in football,? he said.

?We always believe we have to fight to the end never mind what happens initially.?

For Portugal?s Paulo Bento, the stakes are very high as the competition reaches its group climax.

?Not just because of what we?ll need to do against Ghana, but also because we?ll need a favourable result from the Germany-United States game,? Bento said

?Now all we can do is to give everything in our very last game and try and make the most of the very little chance that we have left.?
