Berekum Chelsea edged Lions 2-0 in Berekum

Berekum Chelsea jumped to the summit of the Ghana Premier League table after a convincing opening day 2-0 win over ten-man Heart of Lions.

Former Ghana U20 winger Latif Salifu opened the scoring on the 55th minute mark before substitute Abdul Wahab sealed the points for the Blues midway through the second half.

Chelsea could have won the tie 3-0 had captain Abdul Basit converted a 39th minute penalty.

Bismark Idan was fouled inside the Lions box as he tried to turn in a Latif Salifu intelligent pass.

Referee Liman Nuhu Yakubu pointed to the spot to award Chelsea a penalty.

Idan wasted another glorious chance to put Chelsea ahead after Black Stars winger Solomon Asante laid a defence-splitting pass to him in the 42nd minute.

Former Ghana U17 goalkeeper Joseph Addo stretched to deny Solomon Asante at the nick of half time.

Salifu took an electrifying stroll through the Lions defence to register the opening goal for the Blues ten minutes after the break.

Lions? hopes of staging a fight-back was dealt a blow as Kweku Andoh was sent off.

Substitute Wahab secured the points for Yussif Abubakar?s side with a clever finish.
