Ben Ephson: NDC?s IEA debates U-turn makes lots of political sense

Pollster Ben Ephson has said that the president?s decision to participate the Institute for Economic Affairs (IEA) debate makes lots of political sense.

He said that being new in the presidential race; President John Dramani Mahama will do himself and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) a lot of good when he takes advantage of the IEA platform to sell his vision for the nation.

The NDC, under the leadership of late President John Evans Atta Mills, boycotted the IEA debate, arguing that past presidents had not taken part in the forum and wanted to maintain the status quo.

But the party made a U-turn Friday.

Speaking on Joy FM?s Election Headquarters Friday, Mr Ben Ephson stated that President Mahama can better his chances of retaining power if he takes advantage of the opportunity.

Asked whether the president?s appearance at the IEA will really be to his advantage since he may have to deal with uncomfortable questions bordering on corruption, wrongful judgment debt payments, the Woyome saga among others, Mr Ben Ephson said, ?if you look at the balance of options, whether he goes to the IEA platform or not the issues you?ve talked about will be hanging. It will be there in the public domain.?

?When he goes and he answers, he has nothing to lose but all to gain by having such a huge platform to be able to answer those questions.?

He added that ??it is an opportunity for him to deal with those issues which will be in the public domain anyway.?
