Lagos athlete banned for dual registrationArticle | December 3, 2012 – 4:59pm | By Jide Alaka

Fatima Bello, a table-tennis player with Team Lagos has been suspended by the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) over an allegation that she was registered for the games ? Eko2012 by both Lagos and Delta states.

Segun Oguntade, NTTF Secretary revealed this on Sunday in Lagos.

?Fatima is formally registered with Lagos State in the books of the NTTF, only for Delta State to lay claim to her as their athlete,? said Oguntade.

Bello is formally licensed with Lagos State but took an appointment with Delta in April 2010 which lasted till September 2012.

?We had an emergency meeting where it was decided to suspend her from all table tennis events for three years, with immediate effect,? Oguntade added.

Oguntade added that all the matches she played and won would be awarded to the losers.

The table-tennis player however refused to speak to reporters on the claim of serving two states and the scribe of Lagos table-tennis says there will be an official line soon on the matter.

Meanwhile, Lagos won a gold medal in the men?s table tennis team event after dispatching Rivers 3-0.

A 17-year old, Jide Omotayo, led Team Lagos to the victory by defeating Femi Alabi, a medallist from the 2012 Paralympics.

?We promised the state seven gold medals and this is just a show of our determination and appreciation for all it did to prepare us for the festival,? Omotayo said after the match.

?After the first round, the coach introduced new tactics for me to use and it led to my victory over an older hand in the game.

?And the impact of camping in China for a month really exposed us to better ways of playing the game which gave us the edge,? Omotayo oncluded.
