Procures CT scan and digital X-ray machines

The Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Yenagoa, Dr. Ebitimula Etebu, says the management of the hospital has spent N1.4 billion to procure modern equipment between 2007 and 2012.

The equipment bought include a CT scan machine and a digital X-ray machine.

Etebu explained that the CT scan machine would make it easier and quicker to diagnose whatever is wrong with any part of the body through imaging.

“The digital X-ray machine will be installed in a couple of weeks, while the Physiotherapy Department is also well equipped to cater for all rehabilitation and physical therapy needs of patients,” he said.

The medical director said that although the hospital has a well equipped intensive care unit and a dialysis centre, some other units are awaiting upgrades.

“We have not only improved on our health facilities, we have also engaged experienced doctors as well as consultants for better service delivery,” he said.

“I must say that to make a difference does not cost much. In all, we have spent about N1. 4 billion in achieving what many see as a great feat, but we are still poised to do more.”

Etebu appealed to the state government to contribute its own quota to the development of the hospital, as most of the fund came from various constituencies in the state.

“Whatever assistance that comes from the state government will also go a long way in helping to meet the health needs of the people of Bayelsa,” he said.

He also urged residents to take advantage of the first class facilities and highly experienced medical personnel now available at the centre.
