Awka Development Union (ADU) Women Wing has extoled the virtues of the Wife of the Anambra State Governor Chief (Mrs.) Ebelechukwu Obiano for her commitment to women empowerment and uplifting of the fortunes of widows and indigent women in Anambra State. The commendation was made by the wife of the traditional ruler of Awka, Her Majesty Lolo Nora Nwosu when she led a delegation from ADU Women wing on a courtesy visit yesterday to her office at Government House Awka, Anambra State.

Her majesty told Mrs. Obiano that the activities of her office in support of programmes of her husband as governor of the state are already known across parts of Anambra and is a source of joy to many. She also urged her to keep up the good works. According to Lolo Nora Nwosu, ?Osodieme, we are proud of you and we come in solidarity with you and to welcome you as one of our own in Awka.?

Earlier, President of ACD Women Wing Barrister Mrs. Oge Ekweozo, to the wife of the Governor that ?We welcome you to Awka and would like you to feel at home, knowing that you make it your home Awka women are solidly behind you anytime. Our wish is that you carry us along always in all that you do.?

Chief Mrs. Obiano assured Awka women that she is at home and is committed to contributing her quota towards the progress and development of Anambra state through her pet project the Caring Family Enhancement Initiative (CAF?) which is working to empower women and eradicate poverty from the state by 2020.

Mrs. Obiano told the delegation that CAF? programmes also include training programmes to ensure its sustainability. ?Already we have undertaken various programmes like the training of 42 women made up of 2 persons each from the 21 Local Government Areas of the state in tailoring; others are being trained in soap making as well as in healthcare support services in the rural communities where safe and child delivery and maternal care services are needed.?

Mrs. Obiano assured Awka women that what they are witnessing is a new era of progress and development both within Awka and across the state ?you are aware that new things are happening in Awka under the administration of my husband His Excellency Chief Willie Obiano with a view to turning it into a befitting state capital for Ndi Anambra. The ongoing construction works like the fly-overs and the Millennium city projects amongst many others are all aimed on completion at changing the total landscape.?

She told the women that many indigene of Awka playing various roles as appointees under the present government, and called for their support and prayers. She also noted that with the improved security and influx of new investments and companies into the state more jobs will be available for the youths of Anambra.
