The African Union Commissioner for Peace and Security Ismail Chergui on Monday officially launched the Joint Force of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (CBLT) to fight against Nigerian militant group Boko Haram.

Cameroon, Niger, Nigeria and Chad which are all members of the CBLT, as well as Benin, will mobilize 8,700 soldiers who will be placed under the command of the Nigerian airforce.
The headquarters of this multinational force will be in N’Djamena in conformity with the decision taken in January 2015 by the CBLT member states.
“The choice of N’Djamena as the headquarters of the multinational force was not by chance,” Chergui said, adding that “Chad is a country which had always demonstrated commitment to the course of the African Union.
Chad’s National Defense Minister Benaindo Tatola promised to support the multinational force until it accomplishes its mission.
For over four months, Chadian troops have been fighting Boko Haram on three fronts; on the border between Cameroon and Nigeria, along the border between Niger and Nigeria and in the northeast part of Nigeria.
On May 20, Chadian Parliament passed a resolution authorizing government to maintain the troops along those fronts until the threat posed by Boko Haram is eradicated. Enditem
