Ato Yanney Lives On!!!!

It’s been one year now since one of Ghana’s movie pioneers Ato Yanney passed away after a long battle with illness in the harbour city of Tema, at the age of 78.

Although he has departed from the surface of this earth to be with his maker, the legacy he left is still very much alive.

The writer and director of the epic “ HIS MAJESTY’S SERGEANT” , due to his love for writing, set up a script bank for the Tema based production house Flamboyant Films, of which he was the founder, to carry on his works. Ato Yanney Jnr, C.E.O of Flamboyant Films and son of the legend, in a chat with yours truly, speaking from the United Kingdom, coincidentally to sign a contract with a British Company, Sanya Films, to be distributors of the revised version of “HIS MAJESTY’S SERGEANT”, exactly a year afte his demise, said a tv series “OLD SIMPSON” is about to hit the screen soon, which is the first of the works of his late father to be produced posthumously. It’s a story about an old Oxford graduate by name Mr. Simpson and his son Kobby, who are carpenters and specialize in coffin making, after his return from the United Kingdom. This hilarious comedy talks about the everyday activities that go on in our Ghanaian society, where issues on religious, political and other social issues are discussed the work shop.

“Old Simpson” has seasoned actors like George Williams, Ricky Adelayitar and Diana Asante featuring, and will be introducing a host of talented actors and actresses that are being groomed by the production house.

“This is just the beginning of what Flamboyant Films has to offer the Ghanaian community and the world at large” he concluded.

The late Ato Yanney, wrote and directed films like Genesis Chapter X,No tears for Ananse, Death on Wheels, The Last Show and several documentaries about the history and culture of Ghana, and was responsible for the grooming of seasoned directors like Ivan Quarshiegah , George Bosompim, Yaw boakye etc. Look out for “OLD SIMPSON” on your favourite tv stations, for its a show you must watch.
