Alhaji Braimah Boyong confirmed MCE for Asante Akim Central

The Asante Akim Central Municipal Assembly at the weekend overwhelmingly endorsed the President?s nominee Alhaji Braimah Boyong as Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) at a special meeting organised by the assembly at Odumase.

All 34 members out of the 37-member assembly present voted in favour of the nominee in an election supervised by the Municipal Electoral Officer, Mr Lucas Yiryel.

Prior to the confirmation of the MCE, Mr George Kyei Baffour was elected Presiding Member after his only contender Mr Thomas Osei-Bonsu pulled out of the race ahead of the election.

He polled 32 out of 33 votes and was sworn into office by Mrs Grace Gunubu, Konongo Magistrate?s Court Judge.

The election was for the first time without tension and anxiety which had characterised previous exercises over the last two years.

The assembly in the last two years had met five times and voted 16 rounds in an effort to elect a PM amid accusations and counter accusations.

It was against this background that the weekend exercise was seen as a major boost to the development of the municipality.

Mr Baffour, implored members of the assembly to put behind their differences and work towards speedy development of the municipality.

He urged them to double their efforts to make up for the time lost in the interest of the electorate who brought them to the assembly.

Mr Boyong called for the support of members of the assembly in order to execute the task ahead with a united front.

He reiterated the need for the acceleration of the development of the municipality and gave the assurance that he would work in the interest of the people.
