Three leading figures of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), some Members of Parliament, regional executives and 22 out of the 23 constituency chairpersons in the Central Region, have endorsed the candidature of Nana Akufo-Addo as the man to lead the NPP in the December 2016 general elections ahead of the August 31 Special Congress to elect five out of the seven flagbearer aspirants.

Addressing delegates of the party at a packed conference hall of the Manna Heights Resort at Mankesim on Thursday, Kwamena Bartels, former Minister of the Interior, indicated that ?It is obvious that on the 31st of August the person who will emerge victorious is Nana Akufo-Addo, likewise on October 18.?

According to Mr. Bartels, ?If there is a man who has prepared himself well to lead this country and bring prosperity to Ghana like what President Kufuor did and even more, he is Nana Akufo-Addo. From 2001, I sat with Nana Akufo-Addo in Cabinet and I can say he is the most prepared candidate of the lot who now want to contest.?

Mr. Bartels scoffed claims by some aspirants that they are best placed to attract floating voters.

?Some say they are the ones to attract floating voters. However, some have never even stood for a unit committee election or to be elected as an assembly man, neither have they tried contesting for a seat in Parliament. Nana Akufo-Addo is a three-time Member of Parliament and in the last election, garnered over five million votes. If someone can attract floating voters, certainly, it is Nana Akufo-Addo.?

He appealed to the delegates in the region to give Nana nothing less than 90%, to which the delegates responded ?No, we will give him 100%.?

Fred Oware?s Endorsement

Former 1st Vice Chairman of the NPP, Fred Oware, intimated that the votes that would be cast for each candidate on August 31 were already known, and ?on 7th January, 2017, Nana Akufo-Addo will lead this country and become our next President, with Dr. Bawumia being his Vice President.?

Mr. Fred Oware noted that any of the other six presidential aspirants contesting the NPP flagbearership race ?will be a better President than Mahama. However, amongst the seven, the candidate who can and who will lead the party to victory is Nana Akufo-Addo. I stand here as a delegate and I assure Nana Addo that we will make sure that at all cost, he will emerge victorious.?

Ken Agyepong

Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Ken Agyepong, advocated to ?the sentiments shared by Isaac Osei, MP for Subin and former presidential aspirant of the party, who stated in an interview with Radio XYZ, on Thursday, August 21, that: ?It should be possible for the aspirants to wholeheartedly support the aspirant who receives the highest endorsement in the upcoming special delegates? conference and go to their various constituencies to campaign for him to ensure victory for the party in 2016.?

?I have listened to the grassroots who say it is Nana they want. If we don?t listen to them, then we are only causing problems for ourselves,? Mr. Ken Agyepong said.

MPs Say Nana

Meanwhile, other four Members of Parliament in the region ? Hawa Koomson, MP for Awutu Senya East; Dr. Ato Arthur, MP for KEEA; Benjamin Kofi Ayeh, MP for Upper Denkyira West and Nana Amoako, MP for Upper Denkyira East, have stated that Nana Akufo-Addo is their preferred candidate for the NPP primary.

According to them, apart from the fact that Nana is the choice of NPP grassroots and the choice of majority of Ghanaians, he had been well-marketed and is best placed amongst the other six aspirants to deliver victory for the party in 2016.

?Central Regional Executives led by the Regional Chairman, Robert Kutin, who was flanked by his colleagues, declared their support for Nana Addo.
