AG’s advice led to EC officials release – Police

Three EC officials were arrested early this year for allegedly trying to sign pink sheets used in the 2012 elections.

But two weeks ago they were released from police custody. Crime officer at the Northern regional police command Superintendent Maama Arhin tells Joy News they were freed upon the AG?s advice not to proceed due to lack of evidence.

According to the Superintendent Arhin, there will not be further investigations.

But pressure group Let My Vote Count is questioning the Attorney General?s advice.

Spokesperson for the group David Asante says they believe the suspects have questions to answer.

?We find it a bit strange that all of a sudden, the Attorney-General has suddenly cleared these individuals who have confessed to the Northern Regional police that they had tampered with the electoral material?, said David Asante.

According to him this singular act has the potential of breaking down the foundations of Ghana?s democracy.
