The Agona Royal Family of Apedwa in the Eastern Region has disclosed that by unanimous decision from the five gates of the family, Opanyin Kwadwo Duah Agyeman, with effect from April 26, has been renounced as its family head in other words, ?Abusuapanyin.?
The family has therefore performed every necessary customary rites and rituals, by slaughtering a ram and offering a total of five bottles of schnapps to seal the renouncement of Opanyin Agyeman.
Briefing the media at Apedwa, Odehyee Obiri Yeboah, the spokesperson for the royal family, said the family had already voted and performed every necessary rite in installing Obaapanyin Yaa Takwaa Abrokwa as the new Abusuapanyin of the Agona Royal family.
According to the spokesperson the current position of the royal family against Opanyin Agyeman was due to a number of reasons.
He said Opanyin Agyeman, who as the family head should ensure unity and tranquility among members, rather promoted disunity and discord among family members, stressing that, it is a clear manifestation that he could not continue to stay on as the Abusuapanyin of a highly respected family.
Odehyee Obiri Yeboah added that the disclaimed Abusuapanyin also showed gross disrespect to Osagyefo Amoatia Oforipanin, the Okyenhene, by refusing to attend to his calls for five consecutive times.
?Opaniyin Agyeman showed gross disregard to the Apedwa stool elders and the people of Apedwa as a whole when he, in collaboration with about six other members, unlawfully declared that he had destooled the substantive queen mother of the area, Nana Asantewaa Aboagyewaa, who has been queen for 22 years now,? he said.
The royal spokesperson also said Opanyin Agyeman had been moving round with wild allegation that the queen and the Krontihene of Apedwa, Baffour Owrae Antwi, had sold stool lands without any proof to show.
?Apedwahene, Osaberima Obenakwa Kwarifa II died four months ago, and whiles elders and townspeople are planning a befitting burial for him, this Opanyin Agyeman has vowed that he would not allow the deceased to be buried; he also goes around to organizations and individuals telling them not to offer support to enable us hold a befitting burial for the late chief,? he added.
Odehyee Yeboah said the Agona royal family is being saddled with disgrace as a result of Opanyin Agyeman?s actions, adding that, ?we do not want any disgrace on this royal family and Okyeman; we have therefore renounced him and replaced him with a new Abusuapanyin.?
He however assured the people of Apedwa that all was under control as every necessary planning is still ongoing to hold a befitting burial for the late Apedwahene and urged them to remain calm.
Ogehyee Yeboah also sent a disclaimer to the general public that under no circumstances should anybody transact business with Opanyin Agyeman in respect of Apedwa stool lands since he is no longer regarded as the Abusuapanyin of the Agona Royal Family.
When contacted, the Krontihene, who also serves as the Acting Chief of Apedwa, he said as Acting Chief, nothing was supposed to be done without his consent, but Opanyin Agyeman embarked on certain serious traditional issues without his being aware of them
?he just got up and announced that he had destooled the substantive queen who has been gazette without recourse to right procedures; you cannot just get up and destool a queen and even install a new person without her coming to swear before me,? he said.
Baffour Owrae Antwi confirmed that the royal family had duly informed him of their decision and was as well aware of the renouncement of Opanyin Agyeman.
He said the new Abusuapnyuin, Obaapanyin Yaa Takwaa Abrokwa had also been introduced to him, adding that he had also been made aware of the nullification of the said new queen controversially installed by OpanyinAgyeman.
Reacting to the issue, Opanyin Agyeman, he said he had heard the family members? stands on destooling him, and that at the age of 80 years, he was not interested in ?soiling? himself in such matters, adding that, as far as he is aware, an Abusuapanyin cannot be renounced.
