The Adenta area has had a chronic water shortage problem with many residents resorting to boreholes. Addressing the media on Tuesday, Alhaji Dauda said ?it is my pleasure to announce that the project is practically completed on Friday 19th December, 2014 President John Mahama will turn on the pumps to deliver 20MGD out of the 40MGD to improve water supply to these communities; Adenta, Madina, Kwabenya, Ashongman, North, Wast and West Legon, Ashaley Botwe, Haatso, Boi, Asofaa, Dome, University of Ghana, Valley View University, University of Professional Studies-Accra, Legon Presec, Bawaleshie, Adjirigano and Pantang.? The Kpong Water Supply Expansion Project is being executed by the Exim Bank of China and the Government of Ghana. ?It?s one of my Ministry?s flagship projects and it seeks to introduce 40MGD to the Accra-Tema Metropolitan Area Water Supply,? Alhaji Dauda said.

Alhaji Dauda also indicated that the Teshie-Nungua Desalination Water Project is also completed and that ?plans to pump water into the Ghana Water Systems are underway.? ?The Teshie-Nungua Desalination Water Project is the first ever desalination plant in this country, and it is a 13.2MGD treatment plant to serve about 500,000 people in Teshie, Nungua, the Teshie Military barracks, Baatsonaa, Sakumono and parts of La-Dadekotopon. It is being implemented through a Build, Own, Operate and Transfer (BOOT) mechanism.?

He said the government is working hard to ensure that the shortfall in water supply to the capital is curtailed. ?With a shortfall of 63MGD for Greater Accra Metropolitan Area, the injection of the 65.7MGD will ensure that supply will outstrip demand by 2.7MGD. ?This means that H. E. the President?s John Mahama pledge to substantially improve potable water supply to deprived areas in Accra-Tema by December, 2014 and present it as part of his Christmas package to the people in these area stands redeemed,? he said.
