Fear and panic have gripped the chiefs and people of Gomoa Mpota near Winneba?Junction following persistent attacks on some citizens in the town by a group of land guards.

The land guards are brought from Kasoa and Accra by one of the factions in a chieftaincy dispute, Nana Appiah Baidu VI, Chief of Gomoa Mpota, said at the weekend.

He said the situation is affecting economic and farming activities in the area.

He said on August 4, a group of land guards armed with cutlasses and other offensive weapons invaded the town and disrupted a durbar organized by the chiefs and people to mark the Ahorbaakese festival.

He said the celebration of the festival had been suspended over the past seven years due to the dispute.

The chief said the land guards invaded the town at the time the Police patrol teams from Agona Swedru and Winneba providing security in the town had left.

He therefore appealed to the Inspector General of Police to provide 24-hour security in the town to ensure safety of life and property.

The Abusuapanyin of the town, Ampiah, appealed to the IGP to open a Police Post at Gomoa Mpota, adding that the nearest Police station is at Gomoa Dominase, a distance of about eleven kilometers.

Nana Amppiah appealed to the Central Regional House of Chiefs to expedite action on the chieftaincy case before it to ensure peace.
