Accra Hosts ECOWAS Summit Today

Mham ecoTen ECOWAS leaders have confirmed their participation in Thursday?s summit in Accra with some of them arriving on Wednesday for the crucial meeting.Some of the leaders who have arrived for the summit are Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan, Mahamoud Youssif of Niger, Blaise Campoare of Burkina Faso, Alassane Ouattara of Cote d?lviore and Macky Sall of Senegal.

All the leaders were welcomed by Ghanaian Vice President Paa Kwesi Ammissah Arthur at the Kotoka International Airport in Accra.

The sub-regional leaders are expected to discuss security issues in the region, biometric identity cards for the citizens of member countries among other matters.

Meanwhile security is tight in Accra as police intensify patrols in the city as the dignitaries start to arrive for the summit.

The police are attempting to prevent a colossal traffic jam that hit the city about two months ago when a similar meeting of regional leaders was held in the Ghanaian capital.
