As the campaign for the Anambra Governorship election ended Thursday, an Igbo Socio-Political group, Igboeze Unity Association endorsed the APGA candidate, Chief Willie Obiano.

While addressing over 3000 members of the group, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Victor Umeh has said that victory for the party was important for the survival of the Igbo nation.

Umeh said this at a rally organised by Igboezue Unity Association, in Awka Thursday.

He also called on all Anambra people to embrace the peace so that the masses could freely cast their votes for the best candidate.

“APGA has been advancing the cause of the Igbo race and it is our identity. Igboezue has again demonstrated that APGA is the way to go in Anambra by declaring full support for Chief Willie Obiano and I appeal to everyone to give peace a chance,” he said.

The National chairman of the group, Chief Pius Okoye said the organisation was adopting the APGA candidate because he represented the conscience of the people.

Okoye lauded Umeh for his leadership steadfastness for ensuring the unity of APGA.

He said that the organisation would continue to work for a united Igbo nation by working for the victory of the party in all states of the South East and beyond.

Meanwhile, the former standard bearer of Accord Party, Dr Hygers Igwebuike Thursday cross carpeted to join APGA with over 5,000 supporters pulled from the 177 communities in the state.

Dr Hygers while addressing his supporters who dressed in APGA campaign uniform said his reason for joining APGA family is due to Governor Obi?s unprecedented achievement in the past eight years adding that his anointed candidate and APGA flag bearer, Chief Willie Obiano will no doubt toe his path of making Anambra State a safe place to live.
?If I insist on litigations and counter litigations over my candidature as Accord Party candidate, it shows that I don?t have regard for you. It is true that we have spent a lot of money and taken a lot of risks but I am retreating to come out mightier. We have watched other political parties in this contest and found out that APGA still remain the true Igbo identity.

?Governor Obi has done so well in the past eight years and for anointing Chief Obiano, it shows he will work better than Obi. So, I enjoin you all to vote APGA in the forth coming governorship election on Saturday. We are all friends and we will continue to be friends and that is why we are here together to declare our support to Chief Willie Obiano. I thank all of you especially the Accord party members and the Progressive Anambra Youths. I want to assure you that you will never regret following me.?
Receiving the Accord Party candidate, the former Deputy Governor of Anambra State under PDP and now an APGA chieftain, Dr Okey Ude commended Dr Hygers for the wise decision of joining the moving train and assured him that he will not lose anything.
Also reacting, the Director of Operations, Obiano Campaign Organisation and former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Dr Dubem Obaze explaned that Governor Obi, Umeh, and Obiano would have been in the area to receive the decampees but sent them to do so as the Governor went to the House of Assembly to present the 2014 budget. He described Dr Hygers as a man of his words who has taken the bold step of joining APGA family.
?I am very impressed at the turn out of Accord party members and the Progressive Anambra Youths PAY, who are here to join us in the moving train. Anambra will never go back to Egypt. We will not allow anybody to take us back to Egypt. So I thank you for following your leader. Just keep following him for he will not mislead you.
The National President of the Progressive Anambra youth (PAY) Comrade Okafor Nonso-Smart said Dr Hygers has not failed the group since they started following him and promised that the group which has over 3000 members will vote APGA and as well protect their votes. He warned any political party planning to rig the election to desist from that as they are battle ready to confront anybody that is not willing to give free and fair election a chance in Anambra state.
