Cecil Gabrah, a Road safety Campaigner and a Chief Executive Officer of Top Tec Consult, is advocating the introduction of adequate measures to curb motor accident on the George Walker Bush Highway.
submission follows the latest accident on the newly constructed highway which claimed the lives of two persons.
Mr. Gabrah however insisted that the highway accidents can be reduced when drivers are more careful.
“We have rather inadequate speed levels on the road, so people tend to speed any how. Unfortunately we did not do that education because we were so much in a hurry to open up the road”.
He added that “looking at the curve itself, there is no problem with it, since it has been neatly constructed for safety”.
“One would ask why you would have to speed in a curve, for every good driver, when you get in a curve you have to negotiate very slowly”.
The N1 Highway was commissioned on the 15th of February 2012 and has recorded a number of road accidents which has claimed some lives.
Since February 15 to March 8, this year, the police have also recorded 34 car crashes involving 52 vehicles on the same stretch.
