Academies To Serve As Source of Player Recruitment

 Most of the players to represent Lagos State at the National Youth Games in December in Abuja will be selected from the just-concluded U-17 Basketball Championships.
Babatunde Ogunade, the Chairman, Lagos State Basketball Association, said in an statement to the media.
Ogunade said that the three-day competition, which ended on Friday in Lagos enabled discovery of a large number of `raw talents?.
He said that the association was satisfied with the skills displayed by the talents at the competition organised by the association for basketball academies in the state.
“This shows that the academies are doing a lot for the growth of the game.
“We will continue to support them and organise events to keep them busy.
“We will look at inviting more academies from other states.??
He said that the development showed that the future of basketball in Lagos State would be bright.
Zion Academy had defeated Police Rookies 41-26 to clinch the boys gold medal in the competition while Police Rookies defeated Hope for Girls Academy 17-14 for the girls? gold medal.
The boys bronze medals went to Adopt ?A? Talent Academy which defeated Deepbond Academy, 25-24, while Deepbond for Girls defeated Del Academy 34-0 to win bronze in the girls? category.
The Most Valuable Player (MVP) for boys went to Promise Ibanu, 16, from Zion Academy while Elizabeth Balogun, 14, from Police Rookies, won the MVP for girls.
Eleven male and four female academies competed for honours at the championships held at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Centre, Yaba, Lagos.
