West African state of Mali. There are reports of clashes in the cities
of Gao, Tassilet, Kidal and the Ifoghas mountains on the border with
Algeria.

In the Southern African nation of Malawi school students have gone out
in protest against the administration of President Joyce Banda. Banda
is out of the country in Equatorial Guinea attending the African-South
American summit.

A call has gone out for greater participation by women in the
political process in Zimbabwe. The Southern African state will be
holding national elections beginning in March with a follow-up vote in
July.

Finally, in the North African country of Libya there are thousands of
people still displaced from the U.S.-NATO bombing of during 2011. The
counter-revolution against the government of Col. Muammar Gaddafi
targeted large segments of the population presumed to be allied with
the Jamahiriya.

In addition there were tributes paid to Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois and Malcolm X.
