AASU Joins discussion on Education and Research in Africa

The Secretary General of AASU, Mr. Awaah Fred, is attending a Regional Conference on Innovative Approaches to High Education and Research in Africa taking place in Lome, Togo from November 26-28, 2014.AASU

Mr. Awaah is participating in this conference at the invitation of the Association of African Universities (AAU) in collaboration with UNESCO, Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) and the Conseil Africain et Malgache pour l?Enseignement Superieur (CAMES).

AAU, ADEA and CAMES ?commissioned studies on new models for financing high education in selected countries namely Ghana, Kenya, Senegal and South Africa. The studies proposed new funding models, noting their challenges, limitations, priority issues, fundraising strategies and various actors and their roles.?

According to the organizers, this conference is being held to present the case studies, raise discussion around the proposed funding models and develop a common strategy for monitoring and supporting countries in the development of new strategies for mobilizing and sustaining resources for high education and research.

The participants in this conference include the representatives of Ministries of High Education and Research, Ministries of Finance, Parliaments, Universities and Research Centers, Civil Society, African Academy of Sciences, African Union Commission, Pan African Organizations involved in Education, Regional and Sub-Regional Economic Communities (RECs), bilateral and multilateral partners and the private sector.
