According to the chairman of the technical committee of ABCECG, Mr. Rockson Kwesi Dogbegah, the establishment of this body will help curb the challenges that affect the industry.?

Mr. Dogbegah said this at a stakeholders meeting to discuss findings of a research on the need for a regulator for the construction industry in Ghana.

The research outlined some of the challenges as; poor procurement practices in the industry, poor compliance to standards in construction, inadequate coordination among sector ministries, department and agencies, poor occupational health and safety practices, inadequate technology transfer, non adherence to codes of ethics by some industry players, payment problems with regards to contracts delivered among others.

It came out with solutions like the establishment of a Central Construction Industry Development board to play the role of formulation and regulating the industry.

??Currently there is no single agency that sees to the growth of the construction industry, there is no deliberate policy that aims at growing the construction industry, so this call is for the need for establishment of the industry development board that will ensure an enhanced and vibrate construction industry and also ensure monitoring and tracking of contractor performance and where there are gaps, they deal with it,? Mr Rockson said.
