His Excellency, Chief Willie Obiano of Anambra State has banned the erection of five storey building in the State, this according to the Governor was to cheek the recklessness and the use of substandard building materials used by contractors.

Governor stated this when he visited Udi Street Fegge in Onitsha South Local Government Area of the State where a-5-storey building at its 95% completion stage collapsed at the weekend, leaving one labourer injured.

It would be recalled that about two weeks ago, the commercial city of Onitsha witnessed a total collapsed of St. Christopher?s Anglican Church, Onitsha where four people lost their lives in the manmade disaster.

Chief Obiano who frowned over the development, cautioned contractor in the state over the use of substandard building materials, warning that hence forth, any person who dares to build any house above two storey building in any part of the state without approval from the appropriate quarter will be visited with the full weight of the law.

He however promised to construct the road registered as Udi Street even as he vowed to provide the residents of the street with transformer; this according to him was to promote the standard of living in the area.

Exchanging views with 247ureports.com at the site of the incident, Mr. H.U Omeje, Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State Command, flanked by Onitsha Unit Commander, and Mr. Anthony Metta described the incident as colossal lost not only for the owner of the house but for the government of the state considering the bad image the disaster has brought to the state.

Confirming the incident, Divisional Police Officer in charge of Fegge Police Division, Mr. Rabiu Gabba said his office got the wind of the collapsed at about 18.30 hours. He said that no life was lost; satiating that it was one labourer that sustained injury during the incident

As at the time of filing this report, the total lost encountered by the owner of the building was not certain as efforts made to reach the contractor hit at the rock as he is said to have bailed himself with his two legs when the news of the incident filtered into his ears.
