“The driver of the bus lost control of the vehicle while trying to avoid running over a cyclist who suddenly emerged in front of the bus and went and hit into an oncoming truck,” Central Province Commissioner of Police, Lombe Kamukoshi, was quoted as saying by the paper.
The bus was heading to Copperbelt province and its driver is now on the run.
The truck driver is seriously injured and has been taken to a local hospital.
Road traffic accidents involving public buses are common in Zambia and mainly caused by careless driving.
A government agency responsible for road safety has since drafted a bill to restrict hours for public service drivers to operate in the night.
The bill, which has already been submitted to the ministry of justice, also requires public bus drivers to work with a co-driver. Enditem
