Information reaching Daily Guide indicates that, 4 childern and more patients now shares one bed due to the hampered by the unavailability of hospital wards to cater for the sick patients in and around Kade District in the Eastern Region.

Due to inadequate infrastructures and facilities to upgrade the District Hospital, it has become the major challenges confronting the Administration, whereby it?s the biggest health institution in the area, which is reeling under the pressure of inadequate wards and bad road networks.

Daily Guide investigations indicated that the Chief of the area, Osaberimah Agyare Konadu II and his community members some 10 years back through contributions began to construct on a new 70-bed capacity Maternity ward, but due to lacks of funds for the completion of the project, however, appeal to the Ministry of Health Directorate to support, but the Administrator of the hospital, Dr. Maxwell Larbi, told?Daily Guide that?the contractor from Maripoma Enterprise Ltd working on the project has abandoned it since 2011.

He stated; the abandoned maternity ward has only been 70% completed, whereby its only left to be wired, plastered, furnishing of doors, among others, which can contain 70 beds and over, but?hasn’t?been completed yet, also they lacks logistics such as beds, infrastructures, toilets facilities, human resources management with among others to upgraded the Hospital.
According to the hospital administration, the government later stepped in to help ease the overcrowding in the hospital but Dr. Larbi noted that the situation in the hospital is terrible which urgently needs support.

He proposed that ?the children?s ward which is to accommodate only 12 patients now takes over 46 children and we sometimes have to place three or four children on the same bed at a time which is a worrying to us, and a similar situation is being experienced at the male?s ward which is likely to transfer infections from one patient to another.?

Dr. Maxwell Larbi further appeals to the government to immediately to assist them because a large number of patients are turned away daily due to the unavailability of accommodation facilities which is the major challenges confronting them.

Osaberimah Agyare Konadu II, Kade Chief, when briefing the paper on a telephone interview stated that, in fact, my brother the hospital issue is beyond my limits, all efforts has been made, but no positive response has comes out.
Since 2011, the contractor who was awarded the project by the Eastern Regional Health Directorate has abandoned it, after we contacted them for support has abandoned the project, I don?t even know the contractor myself, he stated.
He further said, recently I contact the Regional Health Director through the then Health Minister Hon Bagbin, and he assures us that, the project has been?awarded?to a different construction company to complete the Maternity ward, but no show has yet been seen on it.
?We therefore appeal to the government to comes to our aids, because there are no more wards to cater for patients who travel far to the place for treatment unless the Doctors turned them away ? Osaberimah Agyare stated.
